Our loving wife, mother, sister, aunt and grandmother, Helen Marie Felix Izatt, 70, died peacefully at home July 15, 1998 after a courageous battle with multiple illnesses.
Helen was born September 12, 1927 in Logan, Utah to Clara Grosnick and Ernest Felix. She had two brothers, Clarence and Don, and two sisters, Doris and Barbara. She was a mother to six children, 19 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. All of those she touched will miss her greatly.After graduating from Logan High School in 1945, Helen earned a Bachelors Degree in 1949 from Utah State University in Food and Nutrition Science. She continued with graduate work in Food and Nutrition Science at Penn State University and in Library Science at Brigham Young University. She married Reed McNeil Izatt in the Logan Temple on August 10, 1949.
She was a great support to Reed during his graduate schooling at Penn State, and later was a gracious host to numerous functions as the wife of a BYU professor. She shared a passion together with her husband for reading classical literature and has been active in The Great Books Club for over three decades. She was a member of the LDS church and served in numerous church positions in the Relief Society and Primary. She was an accomplished homemaker and nutritionist. Her lifelong love and career were her family.
Helen shared her time and experiences with her husband and children on many trips they took together throughout the United States, Canada and Europe. She inspired a life-long commitment to learning among her children. She cherished and loved each of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and remembered them frequently with small, heartfelt gestures. Her enthusiastic and generous spirit lifted her family and friends.
Helen loved to visit the outdoor areas surrounding Provo and Logan, and enjoyed family gatherings in these beautiful canyons and mountains. She was a talented artist and writer, and was skilled in painting, handiwork and sewing. She also cultivated attractive and productive gardens. Helen had a deep love for animals. She rescued several dogs and cats and provided a caring home for them.
She is survived by her husband, and her six children: Susan (Robert) Foster of Moab; Linda Izatt of Provo; Neil (Cheryl) Izatt of Provo; Ted (Tracy) Izatt of The Woodlands, Texas; Steven (Marianne) Izatt of Provo; and Anne Izatt of Provo. She leaves 19 beloved grandchildren and four dear great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Barbara (Keith) Evans of Salt Lake City and brother, Don (Janice) Felix of Sandy. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Doris; and brother, Clarence.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 21, 1998, at 10 a.m., at the Berg Mortuary Drawing Room Chapel, 185 East Center Street, Provo. Friends and family may call Tuesday morning from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. prior to services. Graveside services will be in the Logan City Cemetery at 3:45 p.m.
