Korie Hlede scored 16 points and added a career-high 13 rebounds to lead the Detroit Shock to a 72-57 victory over the Cleveland Rockers on Saturday at the Palace in Auburn Hills, Mich.

Detroit (9-9) moved into a three-way tie for second place in the Eastern Conference with the Rockers and New York Liberty. Hlede, a 5-foot-9 guard, has pulled down at least 11 rebounds twice in Detroit's last four games.LIBERTY 69, MERCURY 63: At Phoenix, Sophia Witherspoon scored a game-high 24 points, including the game-winning free throw with 49.5 seconds remaining, as the New York Liberty edged the Phoenix Mercury to snap a four-game losing streak.

COMETS 75, MONARCHS 44: Cynthia Cooper scored 23 points and became the first WNBA player to pass the 1,000-point career mark as the Houston Comets won their 11th straight game, routing the Sacramento Monarchs.

Cooper, the league's leading scorer, had 11 points and Sheryl Swoopes added 10 as the Comets led 32-13 at halftime. The Monarchs' halftime point total was a new WNBA low, breaking the old mark of 15 set by Phoenix in a game last year against Cleveland.
