Two men were shot in separate incidents in Salt Lake late Friday and early Saturday.

Armando Lopez, 23, address unknown, was shot in the head Friday night during a drive-by shooting. At approximately 11 p.m., at least two males in a red, late-model Datsun had a verbal exchange with three males in a passing car at 300 N. 900 West, said Salt Lake Police Sgt. Tim Doubt.

About five shots were fired at the passing vehicle. Three shots struck the car, with one of the shots going through the back window and hitting Lopez, who was sitting in the back seat, in the back of the head, Doubt said.

The victims drove to a 7-11 at 1000 West and North Temple, where they met an off-duty police officer, Doubt said.

Lopez was taken to LDS Hospital in critical condition but doctors soon discovered the bullet had lodged in his skull and not entered his brain, said Salt Lake Police Lt. Mike Roberts.

"He was sent home with an aspirin and an icepack," Roberts said.

The suspects fled northbound on 900 West. Police are looking for two vehicles that may have been traveling together, but on Saturday had yet to make any arrests.

In a separate incident, Jeff Teague, 20, address unknown, was treated at LDS Hospital for a gunshot wound to the abdomen, Roberts said. The shooting apparently happened about 2 a.m. Saturday near 550 S. 500 East.

"He (the victim) decided not to discuss it with us so that's all the details we have," Roberts said.

Teague's wound was not life-threatening.
