Amid Rockefeller Center's concrete canyons, NBC weatherman Al Roker took putter in hand to launch the plaza's annual flower and garden show.

"Putt for show, drive for dough," Roker joked Wednesday as he tapped a few balls atop the carefully manicured new green. Two balls went beyond the cup and under the designer silk dresses of several models standing nearby.Dozens of onlookers crowded around the green, which was laid out only days ago for the garden show. It opened to the public Thursday. The green will be carted away after the show closes Aug. 2.
