Deidamia ("Damie") Atwood Carlson passed away on Friday, July 10, 1998 after a battle with cancer.

Damie was born March 29, 1918 in Crescent, Utah, to Henry Clark and Sara Hand Atwood. She had six brothers and sisters and nine half-brothers and sisters. She was born on a farm, where she learned to love animals. At five years old, they moved to Salt Lake City. When Damie was in the third grade her mother became ill and she helped care for her for nine years until her mother passed away. Damie developed a strong work ethic and a compassion for service to others during these years. She graduated from South High School in Salt Lake City.She married Wesley B. Carlson on June 25, 1937 and they began a long and happy life together. She was a wonderful and loving wife and they celebrated their 61st anniversary in June.

Damie was the beloved mother of five children, Raymond, of Lehi, Utah; Sherman (wife, Irene), of Yakima, Washington; Steven (wife, Mary), of Lehi, Utah; Myron (wife, LuAnn), of American Fork, Utah; Rebecca Hunt (husband, Cory), of Sandy, Utah. Damie has 23 grandchildren, two step-granddaughters, 11 great-grandchildren, seven step- great grandchildren and one step-great-great-grandchild.

Damie and Wes have lived in Salt Lake City, Lehi, Santa Clara, Moab, and St. George, Utah and Logandale, Nevada and Yakima, Washington, and have made lifelong friends in each location. Damie loved people and they loved her. As a life long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Damie served in many capacities wherever she was needed. She loved the Lord and lived her life in accordance with the teachings of Jesus Christ.

Damie was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Sara Atwood, her two brothers, George and Ozzie Atwood, two sisters, Marion Newmeyer and Phyllis Keate, one daughter-in-law, Nancy Carlson, and two grandchildren, Amanda and Gregory Carlson. She is survived by her husband, Wesley Carlson; her two sisters, Sally Scott, of Reston, Virginia; Dorothy Johnanson, of Murray, Utah and all of her children.

There will be a viewing Wednesday evening at Wing Mortuary, 118 E. Main, Lehi from 6-8 p.m. and Thursday morning at 10 a.m. at the Cedar Hollow 4th Ward Chapel, 145 East 1500 No. The funeral will be held in the Cedar Hollow 4th Ward, Thursday, July 16, 1998 at 11 a.m. She will be interred at the Crescent City Cemetery in Crescent, Utah.
