Darrell Henry Josie, beloved son, husband, dad, grandpa, brother and uncle, went the way he wanted to go winning his last racquetball game July 10, 1998, in Murray, Utah.

Born March 31, 1928, in Talmage, Utah, to Joseph & Norma Beckstead Josie. Married Emma Jean (Emmie) Maxwell on Dec. 1, 1950 in the Salt Lake Temple, whom he met in Tabiona and who waited for him while he served an LDS mission to the North Central States. He was a graduate of Roosevelt High School, BYU, and earned his doctorate degree in education from the University of Utah. Was a teacher at East High School, worked many years for the State Board of Education in Driver's Ed & Safety. Was a Golden Gloves champion in 1948 in the Welter weight division and was a competitive athlete in many fields. Active member of the LDS church, served as a teacher and in many leadership positions. Served as Bishop, High Councilman, Jordan River Temple ordinance worker, and with his wife served missions in Zimbabwe, Africa and Budapest, Hungary. He received numerous professional awards and much recognition in all aspects of his life. Veteran of Korean Conflict, US Army.Survived by wife; daughters, Jeanne (Bruce) Bryant, Sherrill (Ronald) Whiting, Kim (Ernest) Hathaway, Tena (Fred) Parsell; sons, Brett (Moya) Josie, all of Utah; Michael (Cheryl) Josie, Colorado; ten grandsons, seven granddaughters; brothers, Bennett (Alfhild) Josie, Lane (Collie) Josie; sisters, Jolene Giles, Nola (John) Reid, all of Utah; sister-in-law, Gwen Josie; brother-in-law, Verl Broadhead, both of Utah; many nieces, nephews, friends and relatives. Preceded in death by parents; daughter, Barbara Lynn; brother, Jack C. Josie; sister, Marjorie Broadhead.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 14, 1998, 2 p.m., Murray Utah Little Cottonwood Stake Center, 6185 So. 855 E. Friends may call Monday 6 - 8 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 So. State, and Tuesday 1 - 1:45 p.m. at the church. Interment, Redwood Memorial Estates.
