Gary B. Chestang, 60, passed away July 8, 1998 in Salt Lake City following a valiant 3 1/2 year battle with cancer.

He was born October 27, 1937 in Logan, Utah a son of Alfred B. and Wanda Bodrero Chestang.Gary graduated from East High School where he was All-State in Basketball, Football and Track. He was a University of Utah graduate with a degree in Education and was affiliated with Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. While at the University, Gary was a "Utah Great" in basketball and football.

On April 27, 1961, he married Maxine Anderberg. He was an avid sportsman who loved the outdoors and hunting with his sons and dogs; Esther and Reba. He loved playing tennis and socializing with his friends at the Sports Mall and the Cottonwood Country Club.

Gary retired after 25 years with U.S. West Direct Yellow Pages.

Survivors include his wife, Maxine; daughters; Andrea (Richard J.) Erickson, Marne' (Alan J) Pruhs and his two sons; Gary Matthew and Brian Paul. He was the world's greatest grandpa to Alexandra Marie, Lauren Kirsten and Mercede Nicole. He is also survived by his mother and sister Julie and mother-in-law Edith Anderberg and many loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Alfred B. Chestang and Father-in-law; Donald P. Anderberg.

Funeral Services will be conducted Monday, July 13, 1998 at 12 noon in the Wasatch 3rd LDS Ward Chapel, 8170 Shorthills Drive (3425 E. 8080 S.) Friends may call Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Mt. View Memorial Estates, 3115 E. 7800 S. and Monday one hour prior to the services at the Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice in Gary's name.

Interment: Mt. View Memorial Estates.
