On a recent cross-county road trip, I noticed an interstate rest area interval of about 30 to 40 miles, yet Utah has zero rest areas between Ogden and Fillmore, about 175 miles. The I-80 Echo "Welcome" rest area features undrinkable water and broken toilets.

The world may be welcome here but evidently we hope they will not get thirsty or have to urinate. Perhaps we could convert a few of our abundant interstate billboards to pioneer-style outhouses.Mark Bromley
