A Salt Lake City man was hospitalized Wednesday after he was shot in the back by a housemate, police said.
Kenny Morrison, 35, was shot about 11 p.m. with a small handgun at 340 E. Herbert Avenue (1045 South), said Salt Lake City police Lt. Dennis Tueller. Tueller said both parties said the shooting was an accident. However, the shooter was eventually taken into custody for aggravated assault, after police uncovered inconsistencies in the two men's statements. Police said neighbors reported hearing multiple gunshots.
The bullet apparently hit Morrison in the upper back, and exited through his chest. He was taken to LDS Hospital, where he remains in serious condition.
Police are still investigating the incident.
