Monroe is going to get a new post office. But exactly when and where are the questions, with three locations under consideration.

The decision is expected soon. The announcement came from Bob MacGill, real estate specialist with the U.S. Postal Service. He said locations under consideration are on Main Street across from Alvey's Lumber, near Marine Minerals or an area near a day-care center. The new building will contain 5,200 feet of floor space.

A troop of Postal Service officials was in Monroe recently when plans for the new post office building were announced.

The Monroe Post Office is responsible for extensive rural area deliveries as well as in the community, serving some 1,500 homes, Postmaster Dan Strain said.
