Teresa Weatherspoon scored 12 points, including two free throws with 15 seconds left, as the New York Liberty remained undefeated at home with a 59-56 victory over the Detroit Shock on Monday night.

The Liberty (8-5), who lost by 17 points to the expansion Shock on Wednesday, are 6-0 at Madison Square Garden, tying a franchise record.Rebecca Lobo and Sophia Witherspoon each had 11 points as New York snapped Detroit's six-game winning streak before a crowd of 11,276.

Lobo's free throw gave the Liberty a 57-56 lead with 1:06 to play. Neither team could score until New York's 6-foot-3 Sue Wicks won a jump ball against 5-7 Sandy Brondello, forcing Detroit to foul. Weath-er-spoon made both free throws to give New York the final margin.

Detroit's Rhonda Blades, who played for the Liberty last season, missed a 3-point attempt at the buzzer.

Cindy Brown led Detroit (6-5) with 12 points, while Lynette Woodard added nine points and 6-8 Razija Mujanovic, who leads the league in field goal percentage at 61 percent, had eight points.

COMETS 78, ROCKERS 64: Sheryl Swoopes and Cynthia Cooper each scored 18 points for visiting Houston (10-1), which scored the game's first 11 points and by as many as 24 in the first half.

Cleveland (5-5), which lost for the fourth time in five games, was led by Janice Braxton and Merlakia Jones with 13 points each.

Swoopes, who collapsed at practice last Thursday and was hospitalized one night for dehydration, returned after missing one game. She had 15 points in the first half, including going 3-of-3 from 3-point range, and finished with seven assists and four steals.
