Melrose C. Luke passed away July 4th, 1998, at Ferron, Emery County, Utah, of causes incident to age. He was nearly 92.
He was born August 8, 1906, to Joseph Oliver Luke and Leva Lavina Callaway at Orangeville, Emery County, Utah, where he lived most of his life. He was the fifth of six sons, all of whom preceded him in death. They were Leroy, Dall, Elden, Emile, and Erick.He married Sylva Jewkes March 30, 1931, and was later sealed for time and eternity in the Manti LDS Temple. They were together for 53 years when she passed away in 1984.
They were the parents of four children, all of whom survive and live in Orangeville: Clyde (Doris) Luke, Virginia (Horace) Petty, Marvin Luke, and Talma (Dixon) Peacock. They have 14 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren.
He was active in church affairs, including a mission to the Southern States Mission, Sunday school superintendent, bishop's councilor, high priest group leader, a teacher in the auxiliaries, and home and ward teacher. He was also active in civic affairs having served on the city council and the school board. During his life, he had worked as a sales clerk in stores, farmer, insurance agent, and as clerk of the local Selective Service Board.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 8, 1998, at 11 a.m. in the Orangeville 1st Ward Chapel. Viewing will be held from 9:45-10:45 a.m. prior to services at the church. Burial will be at the Orangeville City Cemetery under the direction of Fausett Funeral Home.
