One man was hospitalized Saturday after being shot in the side during a confrontation, and another man was injured in a separate shooting Sunday.

Salt Lake police said the Saturday shooting was reported at 11:39 p.m. at 248 W. 500 North after two men were approached by a pair of assailants.Lt. Phil Kirk said the assailants harassed and attacked the victims, but one of the victims began fighting back. One of the assailants then pulled a gun and fired at least three times. Both of the victims then ran away and were pursued by their attackers.

As the assailants approached a third man, Florencia Diaz-Salcedo, 33, who was apparently uninvolved in the initial confrontation. The shooting started again and Diaz-Salcedo was struck in the left side.

He was taken to LDS Hospital, where he was satisfactory condition Monday.

Kirk said the suspects are described as age 25. One assailant was Caucasian, wearing a black T-shirt, while the other man was described as black, tall, thin and with dreadlocks.

In the second incident, a 35-year-old man was shot in the left leg Sunday after he said he was confronted by several men in his back yard.

The shooting happened at 3:22 a.m. at 1825 S. 1300 East after one of the suspects fired at least three shots. The men then fled in a dark-colored car.

The victim received treatment for the wound at an area hospital.
