After losing nine of their first 10 games by an average of 14.8 points, the Washington Mystics finally played an overtime game.

The result was the same, however, as Teresa Weatherspoon's field goal broke a 60-60 tie with 41.4 seconds left in overtime and the New York Liberty held on for a 62-61 victory before an attendance 15,162 at the MCI Center. The Liberty trailed by 12 points in the first half and by 10 with 6:18 left in regulation, before storming back and tying the game at 54-all on Kym Hampton's basket with 11.2 seconds left.
