A 39-year-old ranch hand was thrown by his horse and drowned in a large pond Sunday evening.

Killed was:Terry Lee Larkins, 39, Farr West.

Larkins and his 15-year-old son were herding horses at a pond near at 2600 W. 4000 North near the Box Elder County line, Weber County deputy sheriff Klint Anderson said.

The son said his father was thrown from his horse and disappeared into a deep section of the pond at 5:46 p.m. Weber County deputies, rescue divers and volunteers began a search of the pond at 6:15 p.m. and recovered the man's body about an hour later.
