Monarchs 70, Starzz 66
Game 11: Sunday night at ARCO Arena
Utah 34 32 - 66
Sacramento 28 42 - 70
First half: Sacramento opens with an 18-8 lead behind two baskets from Latasha Byears and two 3-pointers from Adia Barnes, while Utah's Elena Baranova scores its first six points. The Starzz come snorting back with a 21-2 run - easily their best sequence of the season - using a zone defense to throw the Monarchs en route to a 28-20 lead.
Second half: Utah pulls ahead by eight again, 36-28, but two 3-pointers by Ticha Penicheiro and a three from Byears get the Monarchs moving. Penicheiro layins put the Monarchs ahead twice, but Utah keeps regaining the lead - five points, three points. There are ties at 54, 56, 58 and 63, and Utah leads 66-65 on a spinning, off-the-glass shot from Olympia Scott, but a Byears rebound basket with about 45 seconds left puts Sacramento ahead for good.
Records: Starzz 3-8, Monarchs 3-7
Quotable: "I knew that I had to step up and be more of a shooter and a scorer. I talked to myself at halftime, and I came out with a different attitude." - Monarch point guard Ticha Penicheiro
