A 72-year-old Kearns man has been charged with attempting to murder his wife last month.
The man allegedly fired 11 shots through a bathroom door at his wife on June 3, according to 3rd District Court charges filed Thursday. While the couple argued in front of their home, the woman told her husband he needed to make some changes in his life. The man responded by opening the back of a nearby van and by saying that he would make some changes in their lives, the charges state.
The woman then locked herself in the bathroom, knowing that there was a handgun in the van. The charges say the man told his wife he could kill her through the door, then fired the shots.
The woman avoided being hit by sliding between the sink and wall.
The man has been charged with attempted murder, a second-degree felony. He has been released from the Salt Lake County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.
