Former Scoutmaster Richard V. Morris Jr. was honored at a recent reunion banquet sponsored by Boy Scout Troop 564 and held in the Monument Park Eighth Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Morris, Scoutmaster to approximately 160 Boy Scouts in the troop from 1960 to 1973, was presented an appreciation plaque and a special book of letters written by his former Scouts, who related their experiences in the troop and how Morris helped them develop into manhood. As part of the program, Morris was roasted with memories of Scouting activities.

During his years as a Scoutmaster, Morris won five Outstanding Troop Awards presented by the LDS Church. He was given a Silver Beaver Award in 1971 by his council and won a Dedicated Service Award in 1973 from his district for training services he performed to benefit other Scouting leaders.

Morris's former Scouts attending the banquet said the Scoutmaster, while supporting district camporees - where his troop usually collected most of the competitive awards - always took his charges to their own summer camps in an undeveloped area in the High Uintas.
