Utah 58, Los Angeles 57

Game 10: Thursday night at the Forum

Starzz 31 27 -58

Sparks 33 24 -57

First half: Two teams pressing hard to rid themselves of losing streaks kick off an error-filled game that eventually results in 23 Los Angeles turnovers and and 18 for Utah. The Starzz turn it over on their first two possessions but march right back for a 7-6 lead on two Margo Dydek layups and a Tammi Reiss three. The Sparks try to pull away, but Utah comes back each time.

Second half: LaTonya Johnson starts the second half for Fran Harris. It's still sloppy with two points for each team until Shaq Slap II at 16:30. Spark Mwadi Mabiki is fouled by Dydek, who falls to her knees with a hand on the ball. Mabiki rips the ball away with one hand and gives Dydek a slap to the face with the other for a technical foul. The Sparks go up 45-38 with Dydek resting on the bench, but Utah subs Kim Williams, Olympia Scott and Wendy Palmer help Chantel Tremitiere and Harris put the Starzz up 50-48. Tremitiere ties it at 57 with a three. L.A. is pointless the rest of the way. Baranova's one free throw with three seconds left is the difference.

Quotable: "She don't like very much the physical play. I don't like, either. It's good for me to play the best." - Starzz center Margo Dydek on Sparks center Lisa Leslie
