Registration is heating up for this year's Deseret News/Granite Furniture marathon and 10K races and 5K walk on July 24.

"We're seeing a lot of (registration) activity right now as racers are in the midst of training and getting prepared for the different events," said race director Scott Kerr of the Salt Lake County Parks and Recreation Department. Since January, a committee of community volunteers have been busy organizing the many supporting events involved with the races."There are many 'background' activities involved with these races eacy year," Kerr explained. "For example, we coordinate transportation for marathon runners to the starting line up Emigration Canyon, as well as for 10K and 5K races. We have to be sure there are aid stations along all race routes, and of course it takes many volunteer to oversee things along the routes and at the finish line in Liberty Park."
