Houston 75, Utah 73 (2 OT)
Game 9: Tuesday night at the Delta Center
Comets 35 20 8 12 - 75
Starzz 38 17 8 10 - 73
First half: Utah jumps out to leads of 15-9 and 23-12. The Comets rally 14-2 to lead 26-25, and it's close the rest of the half. Utah's Chantel Tremitiere and Houston's Sheryl Swoopes score 10 points each.
Second half: Margo Dydek scores six of her 11 in the second half, Elena Baranova adds four points and both block a shot as Utah goes up 50-40. The Starzz then succumb to turnovers and missed shots, going seven minutes without a basket while the Comets creep back to within two. Dydek's turnaround jumper makes it 55-51, but all three of Houston's steals for the game come consecutively, and two Cynthia Cooper free throws and a layup send the game to overtime.
First overtime: Utah misses three straight 3-point attempts; the Comets take the rebounds for layins and a 60-57 lead. Cooper's first missed free throw makes it possible for Dydek's rebound basket to knot it at 63 and force Utah's first-ever double OT.
Second overtime: Utah leads 65-63 and 67-65 on Dydek shots, both countered by Cooper. Utah misses a 3-pointer and tip-in try, and Comet Kim Perrot hits a three for a 70-67 margin. A bad Utah pass and grabbing foul puts Houston up 71-67. Cooper makes four of eight final free throws.
Records: Comets 8-1, Starzz 2-7
Quotable: "I'll go out on a limb and say there's good shooters on this team. If I get an open look, I'm going to take it. If it's a good shot yesterday, it's a good shot today." - Starzz forward Fran Harris on Utah's shooting 3-pointers late in the game.
