Tickets are now on sale for the Deseret News/Granite Furniture pre-race Pasta Dinner and Race Clinic, preliminary to this year's marathon and 10K races.

The dinner and race clinic will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 23, at the Salt Lake Arts Center, 20 S. West Temple.Several runners planning to participate in the marathon and 10K races the next day will be in attendance at the dinner, including two runners from Kenya who will participate in a panel discussion beginning at 6 p.m. Among the panelists will be Garth Fisher, director of the Human Performance Research Center at BYU, who will speak on "The Three Determinants of Performance."

Rich Francey, who conducts sports camps for Nike, will moderate the panel discussion, which will also include a nutritionist and a physical therapist.

"This is a great opportunity for those who are either running on Friday or who just love the sport to come hear from experts in the field," said Lauren Graham of the Salt Lake County Parks and Recreation Department, which is coordinating all activities surrounding this year's races.

"We'll be having pasta, bread, drinks and dessert in the courtyard area of the arts center and everyone is invited," Graham added.

Cost of the dinner is $7 for adults and $3 for those 12 and under.

Registration is under way for the marathon, 10K run and 5K walk at all four Granite Furniture locations along the Wasatch Front, as well as at Salt Lake County Parks and Recreation and at the Deseret News, 30 E. 100 South in Salt Lake City.
