A homeless man allegedly shot by a New York police officer whose car windshield he tried to wash said Sunday he had only been trying to earn a living.

Antoine Reid and his family have filed a $100 million lawsuit against the city and the police department over the June 14 shooting, which renewed concern over relations between city residents and a police force under orders to stamp out even the most minor infractions.Reid, a so-called squeegee man, apparently angered officer Michael Meyer, who was off-duty at the time, by soaping his car window, witnesses said. Meyer, who was heading home from a Yankees baseball game in New York's borough of the Bronx, allegedly pulled a gun and shot Reid in the chest.
