A man arrested for vandalism and disruptive behavior hanged himself in the Orem City Jail Sunday afternoon.

Edward Reiter, 24, of Logan, apparently began causing trouble in the area of the LDS church at 1096 W. 1100 North starting around 2 p.m., said Orem Police Lt. Bob Conner. Police were called and Reiter fled.He was arrested on a traffic violation at 650 N. 1200 West and taken into custody at 4 p.m. When an employee at the jail checked his cell at 5:58 p.m., Reiter was found hanging by his shirt.

Paramedics transported him to the Columbia Timpanogos Regional Hospital, where he died shortly after his arrival.

Conner said Reiter was separated from his wife, who lives in Orem and attends the LDS ward Reiter disrupted.

Reiter was arrested for violation of a protective order and charged with a series of crimes including vandalism, criminal mischief, possession of stolen merchandise, providing alcohol to minors and possession of an open container.
