"Bowling for Rhinos," a Saturday, fund-raiser will benefit the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy in Kenya and Ujung Kulon and Bulit Barisan Selatan National Parks in Indonesia.
The activity from 4 to 7 p.m. at Fairmont Bowl, 1121 E. Ashton Ave. (2335 South), is sponsored by the Utah Chapter of The American Association of Zoo Keepers and African Adventures L.C.The cost is $15 per bowler and includes ball and shoe rental, three games, a pizza dinner and a drawing for door prizes, said Hogle Zoo officials.
Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, a 61,000-acre sanctuary in Kenya, is home to 20 black and 23 white rhinos. Armed guards patrol the compound 24 hours daily to prevent poachers from killing rhinos.
Ujung Kulon National Park is inhabited by an estimated 47 of the last Javan rhinos in existence. Funds from the bowling party will be dedicated for the protection and study of the elusive animals.
