One of BYU's own has been named as the grand marshal for America's Freedom Festival at Provo's Fourth of July Grand Parade.
BYU head football coach LaVell Edwards was chosen by the parade committee. He will be honored as grand marshal because he is "a great coach, a great citizen and a great family man," according to a news release.Edwards has taken the BYU Cou-gars to 20 bowl games, been selected as WAC Coach of the Year seven times and been selected as the Kodak District Eight Coach of the Year five times, to name just a few of his many honors. He will begin his 27th year at BYU as head coach this fall.
Youth are the "Hope of America," Edwards said in response to the theme of this year's Freedom Festival. "Today's young people are generally honorable and are able to take on the roles they have inherited."
