Consumers beware: The government is warning against eating raw oysters from Galveston Bay in Texas, because the oysters could contain unusually high levels of water bacteria.

The Food and Drug Administration says consumers should thoroughly cook oysters from Galveston or, as a precaution, oysters from unknown locations."If people are uncertain, then they probably ought to cook them," FDA seafood chief Philip Spiller said Thursday.

The Texas Health Department alerted the FDA of the outbreak after 34 people reported illness from eating the oysters.
