Already facing state criminal charges, an embattled Baptist leader likely will be indicted within weeks on federal charges of tax evasion, bank fraud and money laundering, his attorney says.

"I think it's going to occur within the next two weeks," attorney Denis de Vlaming told reporters after a judge refused to dismiss state racketeering and grand theft charges against the Rev. Henry Lyons, president of the National Baptist Convention USA Inc.One reason de Vlaming considers a federal indictment imminent is that Lyons was invited by U.S. Attorney Charles Wilson to appear before a federal grand jury that has been investigating the Baptist leader since last year.
