Piute County officials may develop a landfill, and the state has approved a permit application and prepared a draft.

County residents will also get a chance to comment about the proposal and permit for the facility, which would be located three miles south of Greenwich. Commissioners said the landfill would accept construction and demolition waste, inert waste, yard waste, dead animals and possibly waste tires.The comment period will extend through July 27. Copies of the application, draft permit and other documents related to the project may be reviewed at the Piute County Special Service District office in the county courthouse in Junction, the Central Utah Public Health Department at 70 Westview Drive in Richfield, or the state office of the Division of Solid and Hazardous Waste in Salt Lake City.
