A Payson man died Thursday morning shortly after suffering a gunshot wound to the head.

Killed was:Rob Clemens, 19, Payson.

Clemens was visiting friends in Spanish Fork during the early morning hours when he picked up a .22 caliber rifle and was handling the gun when it discharged at about 2:35 a.m., said Spanish Fork Police Lt. Brad Stone.

The bullet struck Clemens in the head. He was transported to Columbia Mountain View Hospital, where he died. Stone said there is some confusion over whether the gun was loaded prior to Clemens picking it up. However, Stone said no foul play is suspected.
