Sun Valley Co. has hired an international ski resort planner to assess what could be the largest land-use issue in Ketchum's history.

Consultants from the Park City office of Sno-engineering are preparing a master plan for the 130-acre River Run tract, which is across the Big Wood River from the River Run Day Lodge on the east side of Bald Mountain.Ketchum will have a strong influence on what will happen on River Run, Sun Valley Co. general manager Wally Huffman said. Although it currently is in Blaine County, it likely would be annexed into the city once a development plan is in place.

Among the options are retail space, time-shared units, convention space and a hotel.

Preliminary concepts for the site could be prepared within six weeks, although actual development is a few years away, Huffman said. River Run currently is a parking lot for skiers, so any development would call for a large underground parking area.
