Charlotte 91, Utah 83
Game 7: Thursday night at Delta Center
Sting 46 45 - 91
Starzz 46 37 - 83
First half: Yet another strong start for the Starzz. Elena Baranova scores eight of her 16 points in the first seven minutes, Tammi Reiss has five points and Margo Dydek two baskets as Utah takes its biggest lead of the game, 23-17. An 11-2 Charlotte run puts the visitors up 36-30, but Dydek's two turnaround jumpers keep it close. With Charlotte up 44-40, Dena Head steals and makes a layin and Baranova rebounds a Sting miss and scores from 16 for a 44-all tie. It was 46-46 at the break.
Second half: Back and forth to 57-57, then the Sting make an 11-2 run. Utah claws to 70-70 on a Kim Williams rebound bucket, but after 74-73, Charlotte begins sneaking away. It's up by three, then five, six and seven. Utah would cut into the lead by a point or two, and Charlotte would bump it back up another notch. A Baranova rebound of Head's missed three and a Dydek layin made it 84-79 with just under a minute to play. But that sequence took valuable time. A bad pass later killed Utah's chances as Charlotte used the possession to take an eight-point margin with :28.9 left.
Records: Sting 6-1, Starzz 2-5
Quotable: "Our guards looked for their shots tonight. Last night (at L.A. Wednesday, guards) Christy Smith nor Tori Suber even attempted a shot." - Charlotte coach Marynell Meadors.
