Beloved mother and grandmother, age 55, Emily Louise Maloof Johnson died after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born January 18, 1943 in Amarillo, Texas to Edward Maloof and Shirley Tucker Maloof. She attended schools in Salt Lake City, including Washington Elementary, Horace Mann Junior High and graduated from West High School in 1960, having especially enjoyed her involvement in Art, Orchestra and The Modern Dance Club. Emily graduated as a licensed Practical Nurse from the old Utah Technical College in 1962 then later attended Brigham Young University from which she graduated as a registered nurse in 1972.Even though art and dance were Emily's first career choices, she flourished in her nursing career with her greatest satisfaction being to provide the very best of care to her patients. Emily enjoyed the cultural diversity of travel, music and dance. She dabbled in stained glass and sculpting. She also enjoyed boating, river rafting and scuba diving despite never having learned to swim. She spent her adult life in Salt Lake City, Lehi and Bountiful. She was married to the late John Michael Johnson, of Grantsville.

Survived by her children, Tina Michele Beal (James); Brandon Greg Johnson (Cheryl); and Tanya Nicole Johnson; and granddaughter, Chalise Beal. Emily's children and grandchild were her greatest source of delight and pride and she loved to call herself "a notoriously obnoxious grammy". Also survived by siblings, Joan (Earl) Barnson; Edward ("Larry") Maloof (Jeanene); John "Billy" Draper (Kathy); Lonnie Draper; Carolee Draper Witter (Robert); and Alan Aerts.

At Emily's request, a formal funeral service will be replaced by a farewell reception from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, June 26, 1998 at the Bountiful 55th Ward Chapel, 2285 South 200 West, Bountiful. Interment will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 27, 1998, at the Bountiful City Cemetery.
