Yu Teng-fa, a pioneer in Taiwan's political opposition movement, was slain at his home, police said Thursday.

Yu, 86, a member of the Democratic Progressive Party, was found dead Wednesday at his home in Kaohsiung, about 210 miles south of Taipei, where he lived alone. Relatives said a visitor found him on his back in a pool of blood.Chen Yueh-ying, Yu's daughter-in-law and Kaohsiung magistrate, told reporters he suffered a deep wound on the back of his head. The local coroner said Yu probably died of a blow by a blunt object.
