One might believe he has encountered aliens on part of the Dixie National Forest between now and June 28. But there is really no need to be frightened. Some roads will be closed because members of the Utah National Guard are on a combined training and road improvement mission.
For those planning a trek to the Dixie Forest for fishing or other activities, a word to the wise: Call the Escalante Interagency Office at 435-826-5499 or 435-826-5400 for the status of road closures.The 1457th Engineer Combat Battalion of the Utah National Guard is on the Escalante and Teasdale ranger districts, working on roads while conducting tactical training. The public can expect to see military personnel and vehicles along Forest Service roads. In some cases, military personnel may be wearing biological war-fare gear.
Roads that may be closed include Forest Road 152, Whites Flat Road; Forest Road 149, North Creek Road from the intersection with Road 152 to Barker Reservoir; Forest Road 154, Aquarius/Teasdale Road north of the intersection with Road 162 and north to the forest boundary. Officials said closures will be in effect from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 8 p.m. during construction periods.
