Postal operations will begin Monday at the new East Bay Mail Processing Facility at 936 S. 250 East.

The facility will handle all mail-processing operations for Provo and 129 associate offices for the central and southern part of the state. In addition to mail processing, the facility will offer window service, rent post-office boxes and accept bulk mail.Construction began in April 1987 and concluded last month.

The Provo post office serves an area of some 51,000 square miles and an approximate population of 336,000. Last year, the Provo post office handled more than 99.3 million pieces of mail.

An open house is scheduled for June 29, with public tours being offered from 1 to 8 p.m. that day.
