Actor Richard Gere, in a sports coat, joins Tibetan monks at a "Free Tibet" rally outside the Capitol in Washington, D.C. More than 2,000 people gathered on the Capitol plaza to hear performances by Radiohead, R.E.M., Sean Lennon and Perry Farrell of Porno for Pyros. They also heard speeches by lawmakers, environmentalists and human rights activists, who encouraged President Clinton to speak out for Tibetan independence when he meets with Chinese leaders next week.
