Utah 71, New York 60

Game 3: Monday night at the Delta Center

Liberty 32 28 -60

Starzz 42 29 -71

First half: A Tammi Reiss 3-point shot and 3-point play tied the game at 8-8, but New York pulled ahead 13-10. Utah scored the next eight, a 15-footer by Margo Dydek sandwiched by threes from Elena Baranova and Tricia Bader. The Liberty got back within one, 24-23, then saw Utah off on an 11-0 run that became 17-4 and put Utah in command for the night. Baranova made seven free throws and led all scorers with 12 and all rebounders with six. Liberty insiders Rebecca Lobo and Kym Hampton had three fouls each.

Second half: Utah scored the first six points for a 48-32 lead and eventually increased that to a franchise-best 22 points - at 67-45 - when rookie forward Olympia Scott made a spin move and layup on a fast break. N.Y.'s Vickie Johnson scored 11 in the half; Utah was led by Reiss' seven in the half. It became sloppy as the Starzz tried to force some football-pass breaks and wound up outscoring the Liberty by only one (29-28) in the half.

Records: Starzz 2-1; Liberty 0-3

Quotable: "If people are thinking this is the same team as last year (when Utah was 7-21, last in the WNBA), they have another think coming." - Starzz guard Tammi Reiss
