Questar Gas Co. has asked the Utah Public Service Commission to approve a $1.1 million decrease in its natural gas rates for the state, the company announced Friday.

The change would go into effect July 1, according to Questar. If approved by the PSC, the annual bill for the typical residential customer using 115 decatherms per year would drop from $594.60 to $591.46, a drop of $3.14 per year or about 0.5 percent.

The request was made in the company's semiannual cost-adjustment, or pass-through, filing. Those filings let the company adjust rates twice yearly to reflect changes in gas-supply costs.
