Who better to advise graduating college seniors than the captain of the starship Enterprise, which, after all, once was commanded to boldly go where no one has gone before?
Actor Patrick Stewart, known for his role as Capt. Jean-Luc Picard, was greeted at Santa Clara University with student fans wearing Star Trek pendants, carrying Picard posters and seeking autographs. He warned the 920 students at ceremonies on Saturday against strictly focusing on success and results.
"The path is complex and sometimes hidden," he said. "Only by responding to that inner voice can one's life and worth be authentic."
And, to a whooping standing ovation, he signed off with a command befitting an adventure in deep space or on earth: "Make it so."
