Vivian LaDell Baucum Voorhies, passed away May 31, 1998 in Ogden, UT.
She was born June 17, 1920 in Baxter Springs, CO, a daughter of Wiley Baucum and Irene Harris Baucum. She graduated from high school in Rock Springs, Wyoming. Vivian married A. Dean Voorhies January 7, 1939 in Craig, CO. They lived in Rangely, CO. until 1945 when they moved to Vernal, UT. They established the Western Auto store in 1947. They owned and operated the Red Cloud Motel for 20 years. They were charter members of the Knife & Fork Club and as members of the Jr. Chamber of Commerce, they helped raise the funds that built the Uintah County Hospital.Vivian was active in the Current Topic Club. She was the Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star. The State Grand Chapter officer twice; the Grand Ruth and Grand Lecturer of the Star. As a member of the P.E.O., she was elected to the state board. She was state president and became National Parliamentarian and served as State Parliamentarian, conducting seminars in parliamentary law. She helped organize and became Guardian of Job's Daughters Bethel in Vernal and served as Parliamentarian, Trustee on Grand Job's Daughters Board. Vivian was a member of the Episcopal Church.
She is survived by two sons, Allen Dean Voorhies, Vernal, UT and Ronald Van Voorhies, Eden, UT; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; one sister; Leila Seal, Midland, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, daughter, Lilma Eunice Voorhies and a sister, Wanda Hall.
Memorial services were held Saturday, June 6, 1998 at Thomson's Vernal Mortuary. Burial was in the Vernal Memorial Park. Services were under the direction of Thomson's Vernal Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, family suggests Memorial Donations be made to the Shriner's Hospital for Crippled Children, Fairfax Rd. & Virginia, Salt Lake City, UT.
