Thieves made off with their money, but the youngsters get to go to Bible camp anyway.
The kids from Plaza Road Baptist Church raised $3,000 by selling spaghetti, hot dogs, candy and other items to help pay for a week of summer church camp. But the money disappeared along with two safes after a church window was pried open.Less than two days after news of the theft was made public, the church had received $6,500 in donations and pledges. "It's just been phenomenal," said the Rev. Randy Kivett, church pastor.
Kivett acknowledged pledges from as far away as Chicago and Greenwich, Conn. Money not used for camp will go into the church building fund, he said.
