Senegalese soldiers stand guard by an arriving ship that evacuated more than 1,000 foreign nationals from Bissau, Guinea-Bissau, to Dakar, Senegal, Friday. Evacuees took the 24-hour boat trip with very little food or water. At the start of the journey, passengers had to lie low at the Bissau port as mortars exploded around the ship. Bitter fighting continues between Guinea-Bissau government troops and a junta that began a coup attempt earlier this week.
