Five vehicles were stolen and damaged during an early morning rampage Wednesday that also left mailboxes and fences vandalized throughout southwestern Utah County.
"It's our impression that this is the work of juveniles, and more than one," said Utah County Sheriff's Lt. Ron Fernstedt. All of the stolen vehicles were taken from neighborhoods in the unincorporated West Mountain and Benjamin areas, located west of Payson. Four vehicles were recovered later in locations ranging from Payson to Springville.
One of the vehicles had a burned-out transmission, Fernstedt said, and the others sustained various damages.
In addition, several residents reported that their cars had been rammed into. One woman awoke at 3 a.m. Wednesday to find her pickup truck on the front lawn of her home, although she had earlier left it parked on the street, Fernstedt said.
