SPANISH FORK — Matt Christensen, a three-sport star at Spanish Fork High from 1995-97 who teaches history and physical education at the school, was named the Dons head football coach Thursday. For the past four years Christensen served as a Dons assistant football coach and is the sophomore basketball coach.

He replaces Scott Brumfield, who left to become the line coach at Dixie State College.

"We think our football program is in pretty good shape," Dons athletic director Doug Snell said. "We have good facilities, good equipment and good kids in the program. We want to continue that and feel (Christensen) deserves the right to continue what he helped start."

Christensen was also the guy that the community, parents and players wanted, Snell said.

"He has a lot of support," Snell said.

School officials envision that Christensen, only 27-years-old, could build a long tenure of football success to Spanish Fork.
