Irene Roppe, age 80, died at East Lake Care Center in Provo, Utah, on May 26, 1998 of causes incident to age.
She was born September 20, 1917 in New Bedford, Mass., to John and Rose Bento. Married Emilio S. Avellar in 1934; later divorced. Married Bill Martin in 1960; later divorced. Married Cyril L. Roppe in 1969, and they were still married at the time of his death in 1995.Irene always wanted to help people, so she continued her education and became a Registered Physical Therapist. During her life she had two sons and a daughter. She was a free spirit and enjoyed life. Through her trials in life, she never felt sorry for herself and always held her head high. At times she was difficult to understand but was always willing to experience life. Those who knew her envied her ability to pick herself up, dust herself off, and start all over again.
She is survived by her three children, Janice Higginbotham, Houston, TX; Neal Avellar, Newport Beach, CA; and Hank Avellar, Sandy, UT. Irene dearly loved her daughter-in-law, Maria Avellar. Also survived by two sisters, Rose Linhares, South Datmought, MA; and Lillian Farias, Fairhaven, MA; granddaughters and grandsons, Richard, Rusty, Craig, Dana and Sonia; and great-granddaughters and great-grandson in Texas.
A memorial service will be held when all family members come together to celebrate her life.
