Voneta Jolley Wood, age 75, died June 5, 1998, in Provo, Utah.
She was born August 4, 1922, in Gunnison, Utah, the daughter of Edward McKinnley and Rosella Bosen Jolley. She married Earl Wood on September 8, 1944, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He passed away in November 1994.Voneta graduated from Provo High School and attended Brigham Young University. She had worked at Utah Valley Hospital, Provo City offices, several Provo retail stores and as a teachers aide at Franklin Elementary. She worked as a bookkeeper for her husband's television repair business. Most of all, she enjoyed the opportunity of being a full-time wife and mother. Voneta and her sweetheart Earl were blessed to be able to celebrate their Golden Wedding Anniversary.
Voneta was an active member of the LDS Church serving in the Relief Society, Sunday School and Scouting. She served 40 years in the Primary organization, including serving as president. She was an active member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers Camp #3 and had served as its captain. She was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary Wasatch Chapter 1. She had been a member of the Utah Poetry Society. She was a talented poet and teacher and loved working with children.
She enjoyed the beauties of nature, traveling, camping and fishing. Most of all, she was extremely proud of her family and loved them very much. Through her cheerfulness, patience, endurance and continual service to others, she was an inspiration to all those who knew her.
She is survived by her three sons and one daughter, Karen Wood of Provo, Jon M. (Carol) Wood of Pleasant Grove, Joel E. (Dorene) Wood of West Valley City, and Clair M. Wood of Rochester, MN. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Eric J. Wood and Alexandra Wood; and three brothers and one sister, Joyce J. Merryweather of Orem, Weldon B. Jolley of Orange, CA; Dewey L. Jolley of Orem, and Boyd M. Jolley of American Fork.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 10, 1998, at 11 a.m. at the Provo Utah South Stake Center, 610 West 300 South, Provo. Friends may call Tuesday, June 9, 1998, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Berg Mortuary, 185 East Center Street, Provo, or on Wednesday, June 10, 1998, one hour prior to the services at the stake center. Interment, Provo City Cemetery.
