Tony J. Thimakis has been appointed executive director of the Greek Orthodox Community of Salt Lake City. A Bingham High School and University of Utah graduate, Thimakis holds a master electrician license and for several years had his own electrical business.
Thimakis will help direct the affairs of one of the largest Greek Orthodox parishes west between Chicago and the Pacific Coast. It includes two churches - the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral at 279 S. 300 West, and Prophet Elias Church at 5335 S. Highland Dr.The cathedral is now undergoing a multimillion-dollar renovation. The community has inaugurated a preschool kindergarten and will soon open a 1st grade school at Prophet Elias. In September, the parish will host the annual Greek Festival, one of the largest ethnic events in the country.
