A Midvale man has been charged with seriously injuring his 5-month-old baby by shaking him repeatedly last month.
On May 19, paramedics were called to 47 N. Allen St., Midvale, to treat an injured infant, according to 3rd District Court charges filed Tuesday.The baby was taken to Primary Children's Medical Center and treated for intercranial bleeding, retinal hemorrhaging, an eye injury and other internal injuries.
"The doctor opined that the injuries were suffered from a shak-ing motion and also strangulation of some type," the charges state. "The child also had several bruises about its head and body of varying ages."
The child's mother told police that the child's father was the only person taking care of the baby during the day, the charges state. The father admitted to having shaken the baby "several times because the baby would not stop crying."
When he shook the baby, "its head went back and forth and the baby stopped crying," the charges state.
The man, 20, Midvale, has been charged with child abuse, a second-degree felony. A $75,000 warrant has been issued for his arrest.
