The friend who called 911 to report the murder of comic actor Phil Hartman canceled a news conference Friday, calling the tabloids insensitive and pleading for privacy.

"I am still in shock over this dreadful tragedy," Ron Douglas said in a statement.Hartman, a cast member of NBC's "NewsRadio" and "Saturday Night Live," was shot to death May 28 by his wife Brynn, who committed suicide hours later. Before she killed herself, she went to Douglas' home to confess.

Douglas, a Hollywood stuntman and singer, said he's been offered as much as $100,000 to tell his story to TV and magazine tabloids.
